Chiara Baima Poma is an Italian artist based in the Canary Islands. Her work is centred on the mystical and mythological. Chiara’s paintings craft a landscape of fantasy and illusion, becoming almost dream-like in their renderings of strange figures and unusual settings. They are essential icons of her oeuvre, each manifesting an air of originality and visual make-believe. A myth of Chiara’s own invention, the viewer is invited to ponder each scene, guided towards their own conclusion (or speculation) about the meanings of the piece. She describes her work as a “product of inadequacy in the world, a dissatisfaction that leads to an idealisation of what's no longer there.” Chiara’s first solo show took place in her hometown of Turin later this year.
